Why You Shouldn’t Leave Your Pets at Home Over Summer

The silly season is in full swing across Australia and as the weather warms up and we enjoy the longer days, many of us are dreaming about our upcomming summer holidays, whether that be a week or two along the coast, or a getaway further afield!

As much as we love our furry friends, it’s not always practical to take them along for the trip, especially if flying is involved. Leaving your pets at home however isn’t a great alternative for a number of reasons which we’ll cover in more detail. Thankfully, top notch pet boarding accommodation is available in Geelong to keep your dog comfortable while you get away from it all. Here’s a few reasons for opting for this option:

1. It’s summer and it can get really, really hot

As anyone whose lived in Melbourne or on the west coast near Geelong, for a full 12 months will know, summers here can be scorching hot, as in 40+ degrees scorching hot. Whilst many homes have air conditioning to keep us cool on those days, we also know it’s an expensive luxury. If you’re going away for an extended period of time, keeping the air con on 24/7 to keep your pets cool isn’t practical or affordable.

Meanwhile cool comfort and lots of love at our pet boarding hotel, country club will ensure your furry friend stays comfortable and loved no matter the temperature outside.

2. They’ll get lonely

Our pets, especially dogs, are highly social creatures who thrive on companionship and regular social interaction. Leaving them at home for prolonged periods of time will have them feeling lonely, which is the last thing we want! By giving your dog their own little break at a luxurious, sociable boarding hotel instead of leaving your pets at home, they’ll not only have the chance to make some new friends of their own, they’ll also be kept happy and occupied until your return.

3. Festive Fireworks can be loud and scary

Summer is marked by celebrations, from Christmas to New Year’s Eve and Australia Day. One thing they all have in common, apart from (generally) warm weather is loud, attention-grabbing fireworks. It’s no secret pets can be startled by these loud sudden sounds and the bright colours that accompany them, with some going to great lengths to escape this source of stress. All the more reason to place them in the care of our pet loving experts who can watch over them day and night while you’re away.

4. They still need to be fed and hydrated

Last but certainly not least, your dog still needs to be feed a solid two (or three) meals a day and kept adequately hydrated with plenty of water – especially important in those hot summer months. By staying in one of our exclusive dog suites, your best friend will be served those solid meals and drinks, sourced from premium quality pet food to fuel them through those long summer days.

Testimonials

  • Thank you so much to the staff at Elcho Park Pet Hotel! This was the first time leaving our Mac for more than a night and I was so worried as to how he'd go! Staff were very understanding with this worried mum ringing to check on her puppy! He's come home so relaxed and happy and just want some cuddle time! Highly recommend to anyone needing to leave their pets! Thank you all from the De Marchi's and Mac!

  • (5 stars) We have 2 high maintenance rescue dogs that have been institutionalised to stay in our local kennels. Unfortunately they were closed over a period recently and we needed to look elsewhere. Elcho Park was recommended to us by our local kennels and we travelled down from Ballan to do a trial. Jocelyn was exceptional and talked us through a long list of obviously well established and used procedures they have in place for difficult to handle dogs. We then subsequently met Ellen and Marnie at check in and check out who were equally knowledgeable, relaxed with handling the boys and encouraging of us keeping in touch to see how the boys progressed. We rang every day!!! Our littlest initially refused to eat which meant he wasn't getting some medication. The girls were extremely creative about getting him comfortable with lots of different snacks, food choices, hiding v crushing up etc. They also went to great lengths to spend time at the pens so he would be more trusting and relaxed. Perseverance paid off and for that we are so grateful. They also came home relaxed, happy and very vocal ... sadly no bark issues here!!! I will agree with others that the pens were a little on the smelly side and the facility does look quite tired and in need of a little love. That said the pens we had the boys in were spotlessly clean and there was lots of clean fresh water when we arrived unannounced to pick them up just after 8:30am Tuesday. All I can say is the team there really is amazing, the efforts they went to working with us was beyond impressive and their commitment to the animals in their care unquestionable. 5 stars from us ☺
